Shop Time Management:

Problem: Tracking Unbilled Labor.  I often lose money on jobs that run into problems that “Pop-up”.  The job changes in the middle of the operation and a routine brake job can turn into new wheel bearings, struts or whatever.  I lose track of the hours spent on these types of jobs and can easily lose money.  How do I know how much time my Technicians are really spending on these jobs?

Solution:PTM-Vision’s Shop Time Manager system is an industry leader in time tracking.  Fully integrated with PTM-Vision, STM uses Touch Screen technology making it extremely easy for Technician’s to use on the floor!  STM accurately tracks all time for each Technician by job function and immediately puts the time to the work order when the Technician logs out.    This ensures that shop floor time is accurately tracked.  If the time for a job is out-of-line with what had been forecasted, it is instantly brought to the service writer’s attention. This ensures that appropriate labor is billed to each and every job to optimize shop profits.

Problem: Identifying Labor Efficiency.  I have a number of technicians doing a number of different jobs on the shop floor.  I know some are better at some jobs than others and none of my techs want to admit that they don’t know as much as the others about the jobs they are doing.  I need to know who is performing well and who is not and by job type. How do I figure this out?

Solution: PTM-Vision’s Shop Time Manager has ability to use class codes to define labor types, i.e. engine, transmission, electrical and more.  When Technician’s log in and out of specific jobs, a wealth of information is automatically collected and stored for quick reporting.  Using labor codes and Technician numbers, information is produced that will show which Technician’s do which jobs the best and who is performing the same jobs poorly.  This information helps to identify by Technician where training may be needed.  Because STM tracks every minute of time for each Technician (billed, actual, non-billed, non-paid lunch, and idle time) a variety of reports can be generated to show productivity and efficiency ratings by Technician AND total company.  This same information can also be shown in graph format.  The most successful companies will use this information to cross-train their shop staff improving overall knowledge of each Technician thereby boosting overall shop profits.
